Sue Higgins served as alderman on Calgary City Council for 21 years. She was also a member of the Calgary Public Library Board. At a Board meeting concerned with the installation of computers in designated children?s areas in libraries where terminals cannot be monitored, she asked administrators to report on middle-ground solutions that don?t censor adult material but try to protect chldren. She opposed filtering, saying that libraries are a place to go for information, not censorship. Filtering, she said, can screen out perfectly good information as well as information that you want to filter. She remains violently opposed to censorship. |
