Gary Dickson, QC, former Liberal MLA for Calgary Buffalo and founding president of the Calgary Civil Liberties Association, became best known as the Opposition point man on issues surrounding the 1995 Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP). He was awarded the Calgary Freedom of Expression Award in 2001 for his persistent but unsuccessful efforts to have Freeom To Read Week recognized by government members of the Alberta legislature.
